Society is transitioning to net zero emissions in response to the climate crisis. We can help you on that journey.
The UK has set a legally-binding target to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This means we need to reduce our collective carbon footprint to as close to zero as possible so that what we add to the atmosphere is balanced out by what we remove.
Soon, all organisations will be expected to demonstrate their own plans and progress towards net zero. This is a daunting task, but we are here to help you make rapid, measurable and cost-effective strides towards that goal.
What net zero means for buildings
Heating and powering buildings accounts for nearly a quarter of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, so tackling energy use in buildings is one of the most important actions we can take in the race to net zero.
Reducing emissions in buildings to almost zero by 2050 will require multiple energy efficiency upgrades to equipment and building fabric, as well as fitting properties with renewable energy sources such solar photovoltaics and heat pumps.
Why energy management systems are vital
The key to achieving net zero effectively is to be as efficient as possible with the assets you already have. Installing solar panels or upgrading your HVAC system to a more efficient model are wasted investments if they serve a building that is already being used inefficiently.
This is where smart buildings and Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) come in. They act as the brains of the operation, minimising your energy consumption to a base level so that any new equipment is used to maximum effect.
For example, a BEMS system will optimise your heating so that it switches on at the latest possible time to achieve your operating temperature and compensate for external temperatures so that heaters are only as warm as they need to be.
Net zero without the cost
The added benefit of laying the groundwork for net zero with energy management systems is that they require minimal capital investment – you can make rapid progress on reducing your carbon footprint without installing expensive new equipment.
The systems we install will generally pay back through energy bill savings within one or two years. In some cases, the investment can be financed on a cashflow neutral basis using your expected energy savings.
Track your progress
We can provide software packages to help you track the CO2 savings you achieve through our energy management systems, helping you to demonstrate your progress and ROI to stakeholders.
